Anti-wrinkle injection treatments
Botulinum toxin injections have been used to treat lines and wrinkles for over twenty years. As well as cosmetic uses, Botulinum toxin is used medically to treat numerous medical conditions that involve overactive muscle movement, excessive sweating and migraines.
The effect of the toxin is to prevent the release of neurotransmitters that would normally cause the muscle to contract. This relaxes the muscle and, once the muscle has relaxed, the overlying skin will move less, making wrinkles smoother and less noticeable.
When used for cosmetic purposes as an anti-wrinkle treatment the toxin is injected directly into the treatment area. This will involve a number of small injections into the skin and the injections themselves are usually fairly quick to administer. Downtime post-treatment is generally minimal.
The injections can be administered in different locations on the face to help relax muscles and minimise fine lines and wrinkles. Treatment areas currently offered include:
-
Forehead lines
-
Frown lines between eyebrows (eleven lines)
-
Top of the nose (bunny lines)
-
Wrinkles around the eyes (crow's feet)
-
